April 15th, 2010
Cornerstone Mitford Book Club held it’s quarterly meeting in the CUMC Library in it’s new location in the Education Building Rms 222& 223. There were 13 members present.
Out to Canaan, the fourth novel of the “Mitford Years” series written by Jan Karon was the subject of our review. Sue Carvell read Fancy Skinner’s monologue at the end of Charter 5 sounding like Fancy herself. Everyone was delighted with her reading.
Refreshments were served of Winnie’s chocolate cake and Earl Grey Tea from the Sweet Stuff Bakery as mentioned on page 312 of the book we were reviewing. Mary Lou McDaniel brought her model of the Sweet Stuff from her Mitford Village Collection for our centerpiece.
The next meeting is tentatively set for Thursday, August 19th at 2:00 p.m. In the library. The book to be discussed is Book 5, A New Song. Cynthia’s banana bread (page 270)and Cynthia’s Heavenly Tea (page 268 of the Mitford Cookbook) will be served.
Everyone is anxiously anticipating Jan Karon’s new novel, Party of Four to be out this October. |
